The Proof Is In The Theorem

I don’t know if any of this proves anything or not. Fernando Torres led hapless Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Blackburn with a game winning goal at the 56 minute mark. It might have saved the day, and Roy Hodgson’s job, but can it save the season? And this week England’s long national nightmare is over as Wayne Rooney re-ups with Man U for 5 years for a significant (for footballers) amount of coin…but will it make Man U any better or Wayne Rooney a better man? Fernando Alonso crawled from the wreck-fest that was the Korean Gran Prix with a win and a lead in the points, but does he really deserve to be there on his merits or is he the mere the benefactor or circumstance?

What does it prove that the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers will meet in the World Series? Does the frightening 26th and 30th place finish by Amber & Angela Cope in yesterday’s Camping World Truck Series Kroger 200 at Martinsville prove anything at all, and should it?

One thing that I can prove is that Danica Patrick’s 22nd place finish at Gateway in yesterday’s 5-Hour Energy 250 will do nothing to save NASCAR anytime soon. Not only can I prove it, I can provide the pudding. Yes, yes, I know she got caught up in a big wreck at lap 105 that red-flagged the race. She finished 27 laps down. Have some more custard on that pudding.

Manchester City 0     Arsenal 3

The theory is is that Manchester City should win it all and dominate Premier League football for years to come. They have a fock-load of big name superstar talent now, and a fock-load of cash to buy more. They could have paid Rooney double what Man U is paying him if that is what would taken. They have Tevez and Toure (both of them) and Silva. They have Joe Hart in goal…they have Gareth Barry, James Milner, Jerome Boateng, and Emmanuel Adabayor just to name a few. They have superstars up the ass and enough cash buy more. They should win it all and win big. And yet it goes to show that all the talent in world doesn’t assure wins and championships. Today, Arsenal ((no slouches either when it comes to talent)) came up to the Eastlands and put a whupping on City 0-3.

Arsenal does this with a bit less superstar talent…not to discredit the talents of Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Marouane Chamahk, and the quirky and eccentric Andrei Arshavin. Arsene Wegner has the Gunners playing as a team. It’s a subtle difference that makes a BIG difference. Yeh yeh…Dedryck Boyata got a red card at the 5 minute mark and City had to play the match with 10 men. But I don’t think the result would have been much different.

City’s gaffer, Roberto Mancini was PROUD of his team’s 0-3 defeat at the hands of the Gunners. I think that’s part of City’s problem…Mancini’s new haircut this season must have shaved off a bit of his mind along with his locks. City’s goalie Joe Hart was defiant in defeat: “…The score in no way reflects how well we played.”

Arsenal’s gaffer, Arsene Wegner was understated in victory, “We look like we have matured.” It’s an approach that has and will continue serve the Gunners well. Theo Walcott was similarly modest ahead of the match with City, happy to be underdogs.

All season, so far, we’ve been waiting for City’s all-star squad to click. Despite being bunched up in a tie for 2nd place in Chelsea’s wake, it hasn’t happened with any consistency yet. After all, everytime the New York Yankees have tried to buy a championship, it hasn’t gone well for them. Like this season, for example. Same thing could very well happen with City. Throwing mad cash at superstars is not the solution.

Mancini should sue his barber for malpractice and grown his hair long again. At least when they get boat-raced by Chelsea and Arsenal at the end of they season, they will do it with STYLE!!

Stoke City 1   Manchester United 2

Sir Alex has got Rooney locked up for 5 years, but as I said,  it proves nothing . In theory it should make the Red Devils solid for years to come. But with Wazza, there are no guarantees. I’m not convinced that he’s learned anything from this tumultuous past week. I don’t think he’s any more mature now than he was a week ago. The ONLY saving grace here is that Sir Alex has him under his wing.

Chicharito was the hero of today’s match with Stoke. He scored the opener at Britannia Stadium at the 27th minute mark off a header rebounded from Vidic’s header off a Nani corner kick. Tuncay Volkan Şanlı equalized for The Potters at the 81 minute mark. Chicharito’s game winner came 6 minutes later off a nice pass from Patrice Evra.

Wayne Rooney? He watched it from the whorehouse bench, nearest pub, or the comfort of his pregnant wife’s loving arms. “Honey, I’m Home!!”

At long last.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has a 5 point lead on the field. They continue to lead the Premier League, but after their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge against the hapless Wolves, Carlo Ancelloti is not too pleased with his squad. The gaffer didn’t think they played well at all.  He wasn’t proud of them at all. He knows they can and need to play even better.  And that’s all the proof I need for now. As for this missive, I never said I was trying to prove anything at all. So, mission accomplished.

  1. The arrival of Fernando Torres has given Chelsea one of the most feared strike forces in Europe- I always knew John Terry was really a comic
