NFL is going to disband!!

This morning, at 7;35 AM CDT, Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, announced the that the NFL is going to disband, and merge with Major League Soccer. There will be a major realignment of teams, and the league as a whole as result of this historic decision. The MLS season will start immediately upon conclusion of the final 2011 NFL draft with a series of pre-season friendlies followed by a Summer Qualifying Competition among the current NFL teams to see which ones will start in the top-tier MLS League which will be renamed the MLS Premiere League and expand to 20 teams; and which ones will begin the 2011-2012 season in the MLS America League or the MLS Liberty League. Each of the two teams who finished last in the current MLS Eastern and Western Division will be automatically relegated to the America League…that would be Philadelphia Union and DC United from the East, and Chivas USA and Houston Dynamo from the West. That will assure that 8 of the current NFL teams will have a place in the new league.

Reached at his Green Bay home this morning, Green Bay Packers QB and soon-to-be Midfielder, Aaron Rodgers said, “I’m VERY excited about the prospects of leading the Packers to the MLS Championship in 2012!”  And Dallas Cowboys owners Jerry Jones hopefully tweeted that “…this will be a giant step towards getting the World Cup Final at Cowboys Stadium in 2026!”

Meanwhile, Jeff Gordon, who’s been growing increasing disgusted with his situation at Hendrick Motorsports, and with NASCAR in general, has sold his interest in the #48 Lowes Cheverolet driven by Jimmie Johnson to Dale Earnhardt Jr. for $1 and terminated his contract Hendrick Motorsports with immediate effect. It was originally thought that the 4 time NASCAR champ would be taking over the 7 Mercedes GP ride in place of the recently deposed and humiliated Michael Schumacher, but Gordon insisted on driving the #24 car in F1, so he will replace Timo Glock at Virgin-Cosworth. Glock will handle the driving duties for the #7 Mercedes GP for the remainder of the season. Gordon’s first F1 start will be at the Petronas Malaysia Gran Prix on April 10th.

A little bit of what’s been going on the wide wide worlds of sports today. So make sure your shoes are tied, and remember, no what the day, to be careful when you bend over.
